I am: a student, and educator, a musician, a lover of nature and place, a Pacific Northwesterner to the bone, a UU, and a sister to every Girl Scout.
I love NPR’s series “This I believe.” Here is mine.
I believe that if anything is divine, then everything is.
I believe that we learn by doing, by making mistakes, by getting messy, and by looking at the world in joy.
I believe that to learn and experience life is to connect with divinity. I believe that true teachers and true spiritual leaders are the same thing.
I believe that most real learning happens beyond the four walls of a school room, and that everyone has something to teach you if you will only pay attention.
I believe that some of the best teachers are not humans.
I believe that I will always have more to learn.
I believe that everything is connected to everything else, physically in the ecosystem of the world, and spiritually in the oneness of the divine.
I believe in giving thanks, honoring sacrifice, celebrating gifts.
I believe the spirit that drives birds to sing, otters to play, dolphins to leap, and people to lift their voices in song is the same.
I believe that truly caring for humans and the world we live in is the ultimate purpose of religions, whatever their doctrines.
